Who We Are
Missiongathering Christian Church is a community of people seeking to live out the heart of God in a post-Christian world. As a church we consider ourselves to be evangelical – believing in the message of Jesus as told through the Gospels (Good News) of the New Testament. We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, fully God and fully human, and that his life, death, and resurrection are the foundation of our faith. In following Jesus, we believe the church should be a place of inclusiveness, welcoming & celebrating all of God’s people. Missiongathering welcomes into our community all persons who are seeking an encounter with the living God no matter where they are in their journey. Whether you believe in God all the time, some of the time, or none of the time. Whether you identify as Christian or not. No matter your race, gender, orientation, or religious creed. All are invited to be a part of God’s Family, so all are invited to be a part of the faith community at Missiongathering.
What We Do
If churches exist primarily for themselves, then what’s the point, really? Missiongathering identifies as a “missional church” because we understand the importance of having a greater purpose beyond the walls of our church. On Sunday mornings we gather together at 10:00AM to participate as a faith community in song, prayer, mediation, music, art, multimedia and symbolic experiences, all with the purpose of creating a sacred space where people can meet with and be met by the Divine. Every week there is authentic preaching and teaching that conveys God’s love and grace for all. The other 6 days of the week are centered on our community and the service that we can provide in giving back to the people that surround us, whether it is providing shelter to the homeless youth every Tuesday night, or cleaning up trash on the streets, alleys, and sidewalks in North Park, San Diego.
What We Believe
At Missiongathering we believe that the Church is God’s ongoing presence in the world. Jesus calls his Church to be a compelling force for good in the world, and we believe that the Church is as its best when it serves, sacrifices, and loves, caring about the things God cares about. We were created to live for something larger than ourselves. We value the image of God in all people, everywhere. We believe that we were created to live deeply with one another, carrying each other’s burdens, sharing our possessions, to pray for and confess our sins to each other, to suffer and celebrate together. It’s in these honest, loving relationships that God transforms us and truth becomes a reality. The way of Jesus cannot be lived alone.
