MISSIONGATHERING
OUR
VISION
STATEMENT
Missiongathering is a Progressive, Inclusive, and Anti-Racist Christian Church. Our vision is to be a space for healing, authentic relationships, and service to our local community. Our approach to faith and spirituality is less about doctrine or dogma, and more about living life fully and abundantly, which we believe to be impeccably modeled in the way of Christ.

WHAT WE
MEAN BY
PROGRESSIVE
We embrace an open-handed approach to Christian theology. We interpret scripture through the lens of Christ-like love, compassion, and our continually evolving understanding of the world. Our community is a safe and welcoming space for wherever you might be in your spiritual journey, including those who are going through a deconstruction or faith shift.

MISSIONGATHERING
WHAT WE
MEAN BY
INCLUSIVE
We practice the full inclusion and empowerment of all who have been historically excluded and disempowered in church communities, including women, people of color, persons with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ persons. Rather than simply “welcoming" these individuals, we fully affirm and celebrate their identities, allowing full membership and leadership. Missiongathering is a part of the Disciples of Christ, who historically practice an “open table”, where all are welcomed and invited to participate in the mystery of communion, regardless of their background or spiritual beliefs.

WHAT WE
MEAN BY
ANTI-RACIST
"Racism and the denial of human dignity is counter to the call of Jesus Christ. Racism is a sin that breaks the heart of God. Disciples, we call ourselves a Pro-Reconciling, Anti-Racist church. We have named it as a mission priority, and we have worked hard – though often imperfectly – to live that out in every expression of our ministry." -General Minster and President Terry Owens
As a part of that work, our clergy are required to participate in anti-racism and reconciliation training every 5 years to be in good standing with our denomination. Our lay leaders and members are also encouraged to participate in this training. Through activism, education, and material aid we strive to be a multicultural community that is a resource for racial justice and racial healing.

STATEMENT
OF
BELIEFS
Our denomination, the Disciples of Christ, is a non-creedal tradition, meaning we don’t use doctrines to test, judge, or exclude people. Rather than gather around a common set of beliefs or doctrines, we gather around a common set of practices that we see reflected in the life and teachings of Christ. All are welcome wherever they might be on that journey
