Christian part 3 – “Family”
This morning at Missiongathering – Christian Church we had the pleasure of listening to Mark share the message. Today it was all about “Family”. I took some notes so sit back, relax and let’s get this God time started! I encourage you to also check out the Podcast once it is updated. Good stuff this morning.
There are three ways that God works in creating “family” within MG. Three practices that we need to demonstrate to others in church and those we come in contact with on a daily basis.
1) AFFILIATION – The state of fellowshipping with or connecting. Human beings were not meant to be alone. We need one another to thrive socially, emotionally and spiritually. Check out Genesis 2 when God said it was not good to be alone. Have lunch with someone after church. Come to the shelter and get to know some of our guests. Take part in one of our Life Groups / Bible studies and get to know some of our MGers on a more personal level.
In Acts 2:43-47 The Disciples pooled their resources, worship in the Temple daily and ate together. A meal at home, celebrating and praising God. People noticed and followed them.
God wants us to be in the process of saving others by connecting with others, let them bend your ear about the stresses in their life and maybe share what Christ is doing in yours.
2) AFFIRMATION – the act of providing emotional support or encouragement of one another. We are all wonderfully made and for God’s purpose. Take encouragement and support from the messages we hear on Sunday mornings and the relationships we build during the week. Maybe check out an Eldercare Group or a Serve Team.
In Galatians 3:28 (Message version) we read “In Christ’s family there can be no division into Jew and non-Jew, slave and free, male and female. Among us you are all equal. That is, we are all in a common relationship with Jesus Christ.” All are welcome here.
Also in 1 Peter 4:1 (Message) Be generous with the different things God gave you, passing them around so all get in on it: if words, let it be God’s words; if help, let it be God’s hearty help.
How about helping in the kitchen preparing meals for the homeless or goodies for Sacred Grounds? Or, how about helping with the Little Villagers or train life skills to our shelter guests on Tuesday nights.
3) APPRECIATION – The recognition of good qualities of someone.
1 Peter 4:1 (Message) “Be generous with the different things God gave you, passing them around so all get in on it: if words, let it be God’s words; if help, let it be God’s hearty help.”
Who has guided you? Who do you appreciate? Connect with one another. Encourage one another. Show others appreciation and affirmation and who you are in Christ and you might just get some of that right back.
